Sigmund Freud University (SFU)

The Sigmund Freud University (SFU), the biggest private university in Austria and one of the biggest in Europe, is an integral part of Vienna’s cutting-edge innovative educational network. The Sigmund Freud University (SFU) has a branch in Linz, and has accredited University branches in Paris France, Ljubljana Slovenia, Berlin Germany, and Milan Italy. The SFU consists of four faculties: Psychotherapy Science, Psychology, Medicine and Law.

The Sigmund Freud University has 15 different Research centres/institutes ranging from psychology to law and medicine, where the most diverse research areas are explored. The lead centres are in the fields of psychology and psychotherapy science followed by medicine and law. The SFU has also been running the Outpatient clinic for the municipal administration of the City of Vienna since 2009.

The Sigmund Freud University in close cooperation with the Technical University in Vienna and Graz, is one of the three main research centres of excellence for e-Health and Patient Data Protection in Austria and also counsels many universities and European governments. The SFU experts were the lead advisors on the drafting and expert support for the European Data Protection Act and it runs the WHO Drug monitoring Centre Austria. The SFU experts were deeply involved on the drafting and expert support for the European Data Protection Act from 2008 - 2012.

The interdisciplinary research experience in research of the SFU is a strong asset to the Athena project and brings diversity and academic expertise to our research programme.
